They mate very intensively and can give birth up to 22 young in one litter or 2.000 young per one year. Rat carries offspring in a period of 21-26 days. It can start reproduction cycle by the age of three months. Most house rats die within their first year of life (91-97percent).

As researches show rats are in fact extremely social and enjoy the company of other rats and even humans as well. They can become very lonely and depressed, if they are alone. When one of the rats gets sick, others will take care of it. You can hear and see when the rat is happy. It chatters and grinds with its teeth and makes 'happy' sounds.
