Will repellents get a raccoon out of the chimney? - Many people don't really think about this, but your chimney can make the perfect place for a raccoon to build a home. While you may be enjoying the pleasures of your home, even just a few feet from where the raccoon is at, the raccoon is also enjoying the pleasures of your home. A chimney is a dark location, that is quite secluded, and for most of the year you are not using your chimney, meaning it is a safe place for the raccoon to live. Of course, having a raccoon in your chimney is not a good situation for you at all. To use the repellant you must put it into your fire place, directly below the vent area. Do not open the vent, simply let the fumes do their magic. This can scare the raccoon away. Do not put the repellant down the chimney. This may startle the raccoon, who will only take a few seconds to get out of the chimney. That means you may not have very much time to get away before a panicked raccoon comes your direction.
