What to do about a raccoon on the roof - So one evening you hear some noise outside on what sounds like is coming from your roof and you notice that there it is. There is a raccoon traipsing across your roof to parts unknown. The reality is that the animal is probably looking for a place to get into your attic or into the walls of your home so that it can make a home, and you surely do not want one of these animals in your home. You have to take action and right now, but you do not know what to do. Here are some suggestions to try to get rid of it.
Before you do anything you need to make sure that you protect yourself. Raccoons are wild animals and will attack if they feel provoked. You do not want to be scratched or bitten. These animals carry a lot of diseases and parasites and this can honestly be lethal to you. Wear heavy gloves, cover your skin and wear a mask and protective glasses. Now you are ready.
The best thing to do is to remove the animal from as far away as possible. The best way to do this is by using your hose. You simply turn it on and start to spray the raccoon until it goes away. More often than not this will work. The raccoon will become terrified at being sprayed and scurry off of your roof.
To add to the raccoon's nightmare, make sure you that you turn a lot of lights onto your roof. These animals are nocturnal animals and prefer darkness. Therefore they will run from light. Turn as big lights as you can onto them and begin your spraying.
To really scare off the most persistent of raccoons you want to add as much noise as possible. If you have a dog gets it barking at the raccoon, but don't let it near. You don't want it to be bit. Turn on your stereo and point the speakers toward your roof. Yell and holler a lot. These kinds of things will be very disruptive to the raccoon and cause it to run.
If you find that these are simply not working then consider getting it to run by using a long shovel to push it away. Again, make sure that you are well covered and keep the raccoon as far from you as you possibly can to protect your health.
