What are some of the symptoms of a sick squirrel? Most of us love the cute little squirrels that may be around our homes. We love how adorable they are, and how they leap from place to place, but we may have some concerns of whether the squirrels we find are dangerous because they are sick. If the animal is showing some symptoms of being ill, then you need to avoid this squirrel all together. The problem is that you may have no idea whether the animal is ill or not. The symptoms may not be that obvious if you did not know what to look for. Here are some things that should tell you if the squirrel you are looking at is ill or not.
The first thing to consider is that squirrels have great precision in the movements. They have to. They walk telephone wires, climb trees and poles with great speed and agility. One wrong move and they could be goners. This should be the first sign to you. If you see a squirrel that is having trouble walking around or moving correctly then it may be sick. These animals need precise movements and when you notice that they are not there then you should avoid this animal for sure.
Another major symptom that may be found is if the squirrel has discharge around the mouth or eyes. If you notice that the eyes appear to have a film around them, then this is usually a sign that the critter has something seriously wrong with it. Foaming around the mouth can be a sign that it is in full-fledged rabies. This is a very serious health risk to you. If you see this then you must stay away at all costs. Even if it does not have rabies, it clearly has something seriously wrong with it and you need to be very careful to protect yourself.
Another major symptom to look for is in behavior. Squirrels are generally quite afraid of human beings and will run away if approached by them. Even those that are fed by humans in parks are still quite careful when they are approached. If you come across a squirrel that not only is willing to approach you, but is doing it rather aggressive manners then watch out. If a squirrel is willing to attack you then it could have something very seriously wrong with it. This is not ordinary behavior and is a sign of something that is affecting the squirrels brain and brain functioning.
